A dreaded criminal carrying a bounty of ₹1 lakh on his head was killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh Police’s Special Task Force (STF) late on Monday night.
The encounter took place in the Ramnagar Karjaha area, about 10 km from the district headquarters. According to the police, around 15 rounds were fired from both sides during the 30-minute exchange of fire.

Police said that when the STF team attempted to intercept the accused, he opened fire on them. The STF retaliated, injuring him with bullets in the leg and near the eye. He was rushed to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
The deceased, identified as Mustafizul Hasan, was wanted in connection with the murder of BSP leader Kalamuddin alias Kamalu four years ago. Kalamuddin had contested the Nizamabad Assembly constituency in Azamgarh on a BSP ticket.
Police said Mustafizul had been constantly changing his location to evade arrest. In December 2024, he was arrested in Gujarat, but while being transported to Azamgarh, he escaped by jumping off a moving train near Amravati railway station in Maharashtra after pretending that he needed to use the restroom.
A resident of Mehnagar police station area in Azamgarh district, Mustafizul had 10 criminal cases registered against him – eight in Azamgarh, one in Hardoi, and one in Amravati, Maharashtra. The cases included charges of murder, robbery, and other serious offences.
