Karur stampede: Tamil Nadu CM Vijay announces relief push, hands over government jobs to victims’ families

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is heading to Karur on Friday to meet families affected by the stampede tragedy and hand them government job orders. The visit is part of the state’s broader effort to support those who lost loved ones in the incident.

Jobs and relief for grieving families

The centerpiece of the trip is the handover of compassionate appointment orders — government jobs given to eligible relatives of those killed in the stampede. It’s meant to give these families some financial footing again after the loss. Alongside the jobs, several households will also get support through various state welfare schemes.

A 10-km roadshow before the official events

Before any government business, Vijay will take part in a roadshow running nearly 10 kilometers through Karur, which is expected to draw big crowds along the route. From there, he’ll head to the Atlas Kalaiyaranga Ground on the Karur-Salem Bypass Road to address a public meeting. Organizers have already put up a large pavilion to handle the turnout.

Collectorate program to formalise the appointments

After the public meeting, Vijay will make a short stop at the Government Tourist House before arriving at the Karur District Collectorate. That’s where the compassionate appointments will actually be handed over in an official ceremony, along with welfare benefits for other selected beneficiaries — part of the government’s continued push to help affected families and residents in need.

Heavy security across the district

With the scale of the visit, authorities have deployed around 6,500 police personnel across Karur. Security has been beefed up along the CM’s travel route, at the meeting venue, at the Collectorate, and at other key spots tied to the visit.
