Several protesters and police personnel sustained minor injuries in a clash between agitating members of the Nomad and Semi-Nomad communities and the police during an indefinite sit-in here on Wednesday evening.
The protesters allegedly turned violent in the evening and began pelting stones at the police. In an attempt to disperse the crowd, the police first resorted to a baton charge and later fired tear gas shells, an official spokesperson said.

Members of the Nomad and Semi-Nomad communities have been staging a Mahapadav at the Vidhyadhar Nagar Stadium here for the past 10 days, demanding a 10 per cent reservation quota for their communities.
Earlier in the day, a delegation of protesters held talks with senior IAS officer Kuldeep Ranka at the protest site over their demands.
However, the talks remained inconclusive, following which the protesters decided to march towards the Chief Minister’s residence. The police stopped them from proceeding.
This led to a confrontation, during which the protesters allegedly resorted to stone-pelting. The police responded with a lathi charge and fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd.
The police also detained several protesters, the spokesperson added.
