Amid the tense fight between both factions of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) over poll symbol, the Ritabrata faction is slated to meet the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in the national capital on Thursday noon.
A delegation of the newly formed group headed by Bengal Leader of Opposition Ritabrata Banerjee will meet Kumar along with Election Commissioners Sukhbir Singh Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.

The meeting assumes significance amid the turmoil within the Mamata Banerjee-led party as it follows the Ritabrata delegation’s recent visit to the office of the West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), where it formally presented its claim regarding the party’s official election symbol.

During Thursday’s meeting, the delegation is expected to place its position before the Election Commission.
TMC chief Mamata Banerjee had earlier formally presented her party’s office-bearers list to the poll body while the Ritabrata faction announced former West Bengal minister Arup Roy as their party’s new chairperson.
Both camps have now moved ahead to assert their themselves as the “real Trinamool”, as they rush to take control over the party leadership, organisational structure and its election symbol.
The Ritabrata faction has also constituted a 30-member National Working Committee which included senior TMC faces like Firhad Hakim, Arup Biswas, Rathin Ghosh – politcical figures who were popularly seen as staunch supporters of Mamata Banerjee, before the assembly elections.
