Prabhas shared an anecdote in the documentary ‘Baahubali: The Torchbearer’ about the unexpected reach of the film. Filmmaker Puri Jagannadh was at a hospital in Bangkok with a minor infection. While waiting, a nurse asked if he was from India. When he said yes, she immediately asked one word: “Baahubali?”

What followed was not something Puri had planned for.

What happened at the Bangkok hospital

Puri told the nurse he knew the actor personally. He showed her a photograph of the two of them together. She took the photograph straight to the doctor.

“He’s Baahubali’s friend,” she told the doctor.

Puri’s waiting time was skipped. He was treated immediately.

Prabhas recounted the full exchange in his own words. “Puri was shocked and asked if she had seen the film. She said everyone had watched it and even the doctor loved it. He showed her a photograph of us together and told her he was my friend. She immediately took the picture to the doctor and said, ‘He’s Baahubali’s friend!’ They skipped his waiting time and treated him immediately,” he said.

How Prabhas found out

Puri sent Prabhas a voice message from Bangkok recounting the entire incident. At the time, Prabhas was on the set of Baahubali: The Conclusion at Ramoji Film City, alongside director SS Rajamouli and producer Rama Rajamouli.

The three of them listened to the voice message together.

“Rajamouli and Rama were also on set. We knew about the impact in Japan, but this was the first time I heard it reached Bangkok. Just being Baahubali’s friend got him special treatment. That was a masterstroke. I remember from the shoot,” Prabhas said.

The incident took place approximately six months into the shoot of ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’, which began at Ramoji Film City after the first film’s release. ‘Baahubali: The Beginning’ was released in 2015. The sequel, ‘Baahubali: The Conclusion’, released in 2017.

What Prabhas is working on

Prabhas has several films in various stages of production. His upcoming projects include ‘Fauji’, ‘Spirit’, ‘Kalki 2’, ‘Salaar 2’, and ‘Raja Saab 2’.
