Simultaneous raids were reportedly conducted at the houses of all the eight people arrested over embezzlement of donations at the Ram Temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya.

Multiple teams of police, along with local magistrates, carried out the raids at the residences of all the accused, including Lav Kush Mishra, Avinash Shukla and Ramashankar Yadav, PTI quoted police sources as saying.

This comes days after the eight persons were remanded to judicial custody till June 29 by a court in Ayodhya. Police is next expected to seek their custodial remand when all of them are scheduled to be produced before the court on Monday.

Among the eight persons associated with counting cash and valuables received as donations at Ayodhya’s Ram Temple are Avinash Shukla, Anukalp Mishra, Lav Kush Mishra, Manish Kumar Yadav, Karunesh Pandey, Ram Shankar Mishra, Subhash Srivastava and Ramashankar alias Tinnu Yadav.

As per reports, investigators, so far, have recovered ₹79.85 lakh in connection with the matter. A case in this regard was registered under multiple Sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to theft by servant, criminal breach of trust, receiving stolen property and criminal conspiracy.

The FIR was registered based on the recommendations made by the preliminary report submitted by a three-member Special Investigation Team (SIT).
