The alleged murder of businessman Ketan Agrawal has left Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis shocked, with the CM saying the incident raises deeper questions about the environment in which such “cruel and revenge-driven thoughts” develop among children.
Ketan Agrawal reportedly died after falling from Lohagad Fort near Pune on June 18, following which a case was registered. Lonavala Rural Police, investigating the alleged murder, suspect that the prime accused, Siya Goyal, was unwilling to get married at this stage of her life and was allegedly under family pressure to marry the victim.

Reacting to the case, Fadnavis said the incident was not only a criminal matter but also something that required society to reflect on.
“This is an extremely shocking incident, something beyond imagination. It is the kind of incident that compels us, as a society, to seriously reflect. Why do children from educated and well-settled families develop such malicious and destructive thinking? What are the reasons behind this mindset? We need to think deeply about it,” Fadnavis said.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s father, Vishal Agarwal, met Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis in Pune today. He says, “I have urged the CM that the accused should at least get the death penalty. The CM assured me that this case will be fast-tracked. I have been told that an SIT has been formed in the case.” “We had cleared to them (Siya Goyal’s family) that Ketan used a small patch of wig on his head. Is this a reason to kill someone? As per my information, Siya wanted to go on the trek.”
Fadnavis said such incidents require a broader discussion about social surroundings and the values being shaped among young people. He urged people not to view the case only through the lens of a crime investigation, but also examine the larger social factors involved. “In reality, this case should not be viewed merely as a crime, but also from a social perspective. Society must consider what kind of environment and system needs to be created so that such cruel and revenge-driven thoughts do not develop in children at such a young age. This incident is truly very shocking,” he added. The Chief Minister’s remarks came as the investigation into the alleged murder continues.
