The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts for 31 districts across Maharashtra as the southwest monsoon strengthens over the state. Mumbai alone reported 113 incidents of fallen trees and branches in the past 24 hours amid heavy rain and gusty winds.
The latest forecast points to continued rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds in several parts of Maharashtra. While 25 districts are under a yellow alert, six districts have been placed under an orange alert due to the possibility of heavier rainfall and adverse weather conditions.

Mumbai sees over 100 tree and branch fall incidents
According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), 113 tree and branch fall incidents were recorded across the city over the last 24 hours.
Of these, 40 incidents occurred in the island city, 23 in the eastern suburbs and 50 in the western suburbs.
Heavy showers have continued across Mumbai and neighbouring Thane over the past two days as monsoon activity intensified.
IMD issues yellow and orange alerts across Maharashtra
The IMD has placed Mumbai, Thane, Sindhudurg, Nashik, Ahilyanagar, Raigad, Sangli, Solapur, Buldhana, Gadchiroli, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Ratnagiri, Hingoli, Nanded, Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Kolhapur, Beed, Gondia, Nagpur, Jalna, Parbhani, Wardha and Washim under a yellow alert.
Orange alerts have been issued for Pune, Dharashiv, Chandrapur, Yavatmal, Latur, and Satara.
Monsoon now covers entire Maharashtra
The southwest monsoon has advanced over the remaining parts of Maharashtra, including Mumbai, bringing widespread rainfall across the state.
Rain has also been reported from Nashik, Jalgaon, Parbhani, Jalna, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Amravati, Yavatmal, Nagpur and Chandrapur. During the same period, the monsoon has progressed further into parts of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
Meteorologists said the recent increase in rainfall was caused by the interaction of three atmospheric systems rather than a single weather system.
Temperatures likely to dip over the next few days
The IMD has forecast a gradual fall in temperatures across Maharashtra.
Maximum temperatures are expected to decline by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius over the next two days before stabilising. Minimum temperatures are also likely to decrease gradually over the next four to five days.
The weather department has advised people to keep an eye on forecasts and remain cautious as rain is expected to persist over the coming days.
