Defective plan sanctioned by previous govt led to disaster: Suvendu on Taratala warehouse collapse

West Bengal Urban Development Minister Agnimitra Paul has rushed to the accident site at Taratala soon after a massive iron roof of an underconstruction tea warehouse collapsed in Taratala trapping several workers under the debris.

“We are creating a pathway so that we can get in and rescue those trapped underneath,” the official was heard saying said with the Minister listening to her patiently.
The traggic incident took place near the Brace Bridge in Taratala, close to the bus depot. Several wokers have sustained serious injuries and are being rushed to nearby hospitals through a green corridor.
Police and disaster management teams are working on a war footing to carry out the rescue operation; bulldozers and gas cutters have been brought in. Efforts are underway to cut through the heavy iron beams and sections of the shed to extricate those trapped inside.
Local sources indicate that construction work at the tea warehouse next to the transport depot was underway. On Wednesday, workers had come to the place as usual. A loud sound was heard as the massive heavy iron shed and a section of the roof gave in.
A large police contingent from the local station and members of the Kolkata Police Disaster Management Group (DMG) subsequnetly reached the place.
