The Delhi High Court on Friday adjourned the hearing on Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s plea seeking to stop the release of the proposed film ‘Kala Hiran’. The court did not grant any interim relief at this stage.
A vacation bench headed by Justice Madhu Jain directed that a complete copy of the plaint and all accompanying documents be provided to the respondent filmmaker. The matter has been listed for hearing on July 1.

What Salman Khan’s side said
During the hearing, Salman Khan was represented by advocate Nizam Pasha. He told the court that the film is reportedly based on the actor’s life and has been produced without his consent.
Pasha also pressed for urgent interim relief. He informed the court that the poster and trailer of the film had already been released, though the makers had not yet announced a release date.
What the filmmakers’ side said
The counsel appearing for the filmmakers opposed the plea for urgent relief. The lawyer argued that the complete set of case documents had not been properly served to them.
“On Wednesday, they served me only a copy of the application, not the plaint,” the counsel told the court.
The filmmakers’ lawyer also brought up a separate concern. He told the court that the filmmakers had been receiving death threats over the project and that an FIR had already been lodged in connection with those threats.
Court’s order
After hearing both sides, Justice Jain directed Salman Khan’s team to furnish the full set of documents, including the plaint, to the respondent.
Shortly after the order was passed, Khan’s counsel mentioned the matter again in court. He argued that the filmmakers had already been served and requested that the hearing be advanced to an earlier date.
Justice Jain declined. The court noted that the matter had already been listed in July and saw no reason to advance it.
The legal notice before the case
The dispute reached court after Salman Khan’s legal team sent a formal notice to the makers of ‘Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy.’ The notice asked them to halt the film’s release and pull down all promotional material, including posters and publicity content.
About the film
‘Kala Hiran: The Battle for Legacy’ has been directed by Bharat S. Shrinate and produced by Amit Jani. The film draws from the blackbuck poaching case in which Salman Khan was convicted in 2018. The story also portrays his alleged rivalry with gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
The makers have described the film as a courtroom drama and crime thriller. They have said it has been mounted on an international scale.
Death threats against producer
The controversy around the film has grown sharper in recent days. Producer Amit Jani has claimed that he has been receiving death threats ahead of the film’s release.
On June 18, Jani alleged that a Pakistani terrorist had threatened him with a drone and grenade attack because of the film. He said he had informed the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, Rajasthan Police, and CRPF officials about the threat.
Within 24 hours of this claim, Jani alleged that he received a second threat. In a complaint filed with police in Jodhpur, he said an unidentified caller claimed to be a Salman Khan fan and threatened to kill him within three days.
Jani urged authorities to immediately register a case and arrest the accused.
