Switzerland produced a stunning late show to defeat Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-1 in Group B of the FIFA World Cup 2026, scoring all four of their goals after the 74th minute to create tournament history.

The dramatic victory saw Murat Yakin’s side become the first team in World Cup history to score four goals in a match after the 74th minute. Remarkably, all five goals in the contest arrived in the final 16 minutes plus stoppage time, setting another tournament record for the latest all-goal scoring match.

Substitutes Johan Manzambi and Ruben Vargas proved to be the game-changers as Switzerland transformed a tense and goalless contest into a commanding victory. Manzambi scored twice and played a key role in the dismissal of Bosnia defender Tarik Muharemovic, while Vargas contributed a goal and an assist in a devastating cameo off the bench.

Switzerland had struggled to break down a resilient Bosnia side for much of the contest. Dan Ndoye and Remo Freuler came closest in the opening half, while Bosnia goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj produced a series of impressive saves after the break to frustrate the Swiss attack.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 74th minute when Vargas’ dangerous cross created confusion in the penalty area and Manzambi reacted quickest to fire home the rebound.

The young forward continued to influence the game moments later, slipping a clever pass through for Breel Embolo, who was brought down by Muharemovic. The Bosnian defender was shown a straight red card, leaving his side with ten men for the closing stages.

With the numerical advantage, Switzerland took full control. Vargas doubled the lead with a composed low finish before Manzambi completed his brace in the 90th minute to cap a dream outing from the bench.

Bosnia briefly pulled one back through Ermin Mahmic’s powerful strike, but any hopes of a late comeback were extinguished almost immediately when Granit Xhaka calmly converted a stoppage-time penalty after Djibril Sow was fouled inside the box.

The victory lifts Switzerland to the top of Group B and underlines the impact of Yakin’s tactical changes, with Manzambi emerging as one of the tournament’s breakout stars after becoming one of the youngest players to score a World Cup brace.
