India’s mammoth 402 against Afghanistan in the second ODI at Lucknow was more than just a dominant batting performance. Led by centuries from Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan, the innings produced several notable milestones for Indian cricket, underlining the depth and firepower of the team’s batting unit.

1. Shubman Gill crosses 7,000 international runs

India captain Shubman Gill continued his remarkable rise by surpassing the 7,000-run mark in international cricket. His stunning 154 off 110 deliveries not only laid the foundation for India’s 400-plus total but also took his overall tally across Tests, ODIs and T20Is beyond 7,000 runs.

The knock was one of Gill’s finest ODI innings, featuring 22 fours and two sixes. He reached 150 in just 108 balls, making it the third-fastest 150 by an Indian batter in ODI cricket. The innings also reinforced his status as one of the world’s premier white-ball batters and came at a time when he is leading India in the absence of several senior stars.

2. Ishan Kishan completes 1,000 ODI runs

Returning to the ODI setup, Ishan Kishan made a massive statement with a blistering 125 off 79 balls. In the process, the wicketkeeper-batter crossed the milestone of 1,000 ODI runs.

Kishan became the fourth-fastest Indian to reach the landmark in terms of innings and did so in trademark aggressive fashion. His innings included 14 boundaries and seven sixes and helped maintain the momentum established by Gill. Having already registered a double century in ODI cricket earlier in his career, Kishan once again showcased why he remains one of India’s most destructive limited-overs batters.

3. Rohit Sharma joins India’s 14,000-run List A club

Veteran opener Rohit Sharma added another feather to his illustrious cap by becoming only the fifth Indian cricketer to score 14,000 runs in List A cricket.

Although he fell short of a half-century after scoring 48, the innings was enough to take him past the landmark. Rohit joined an elite list comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid. The achievement highlights the longevity and consistency of one of India’s greatest white-ball players, whose career has spanned nearly two decades.

4. Shreyas Iyer reaches 3,000 ODI runs

Shreyas Iyer quietly achieved a significant milestone of his own by crossing 3,000 ODI runs during his 26-run knock.

The middle-order batter became the joint second-fastest Indian to reach the mark, matching Shikhar Dhawan’s feat. Despite not enjoying his most productive year in ODI cricket, Iyer’s overall numbers continue to underline his importance in India’s middle order. Since making his debut, he has been one of the team’s most reliable run-scorers against both pace and spin.

5. India equal South Africa’s record for most 400-plus ODI totals

India’s final score of 402 all out was not just another imposing total, it was their eighth score of 400 or more in ODI cricket.

That effort allowed India to draw level with South Africa for the most 400-plus totals by any team in ODI history. It was another reminder of India’s batting strength in the modern era and their ability to post massive scores across conditions and opposition.

Their highest ODI score remains 418/5 against the West Indies in 2011, but the latest effort further cemented their place among the most prolific batting sides in one-day cricket.

6. Gill and Kishan script partnership history

The day also witnessed a record-breaking 224-run partnership between Gill and Kishan for the third wicket. It became India’s third-highest third-wicket stand in ODI history and the first instance of two Indian batters scoring centuries in under 80 balls each in the same ODI.

Together, the pair transformed a good start into a historic batting display, ensuring the match will be remembered as much for its milestones as for the final score.
