‘Building confidence in girls is important’: Delhi Police organises self-defence training camp

In line with several initiatives taken to ensure women’s safety and promote empowerment, the Self Defence Wing of the Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC) of the Delhi Police successfully concluded its 22nd Self Defence summer camp across four city locations on Thursday.

In line with several initiatives taken to ensure women’s safety and promote empowerment, the Self Defence Wing of the Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC) of the Delhi Police successfully concluded its 22nd Self Defence summer camp across four city locations on Thursday.

The SPUWAC’s motive behind the initiative is to empower girls and women, preparing them to respond appropriately to protect themselves in any untoward situation.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner of Police SPUWAC Neha Yadav said building confidence is crucial, especially for girls. Such initiatives help achieve this.
According to the senior police official, the response time and the reaction in such a situation is something that really helps counter any untoward situation in the correct manner.

Interestingly, the camp is specially designed to train participants in self-defence techniques, while also sensitizing them on women’s safety, cyber safety, legal awareness, personality development, mental health and several other life skills.
Multiple educational, recreational and fitness activities are also conducted throughout the camp.

The summer camp, which began on May 29, concluded on Thursday in the presence of several senior Delhi Police officials, including Nabam Gungte, Joint Commissioner of Police, SPUWAC & SPUNER, DCP SPUWAC Yadav; and Additional DCP SPUWAC Dr. Ridhima Seth at different camp venues.

Addressing the participants, the police officials emphasized the importance of self-defence as an effective tool for personal safety and empowerment.
On the occasion, the participants also presented a demonstration of the self-defence techniques learned by them during the camp, and also showcased skills acquired by them in the camp.

Certificates were distributed to the participants on successful completion of the camp, and as a part of spreading awareness about environment conservation, saplings were also distributed to the participants to encourage plantation activities.
