Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi on Tuesday reviewed the operational capabilities and preparedness of the Army’s Northern Command during a visit to Udhampur, where he emphasised the adoption of emerging technologies and innovation to enhance military effectiveness.
The Army chief also honoured veterans for their distinguished service to society, ex-servicemen and local communities.

Officers said that General Dwivedi visited Northern Command and reviewed its operational preparedness, capability development and modernisation initiatives.
He was briefed on the conduct of Multi-Domain Operations, Tech-Absorption, infrastructure development and integrated combat readiness across the full spectrum of operations.
Interacting with officers of Northern Command and Formation Headquarters through a hybrid format, the COAS underscored the importance of harnessing emerging technologies and fostering innovation to enhance operational effectiveness in an increasingly dynamic security environment.
Commending all ranks for their unwavering commitment and operational excellence, he lauded their sustained efforts in maintaining a high state of combat readiness.
The Army Chief’s visit has come amid the joint operation that has been launched in the Rajouri district to track down a group of fleeing Pakistani terrorists and the upcoming annual pilgrimage of Shri Amarnath. Arrangements for the annual Shri Amarnath pilgrimage in South Kashmir Himalayas in which the Army also plays a major role especially in manning heights around the cave shrine besides some other sensitive locations, are also reported to have figured in the meeting.
General Dwivedi felicitated Lt Colonel Som Raj Sharma (Retd), Lt Colonel Balwant Singh (Retd), Honorary Captain Raj Kumar (Retd), Subedar Gyan Singh (Retd) (a 1965 & 1971 War Veteran), Naik Charan Singh (Retd), Havaldar Bharat Bhushan (Retd) and Honorary Naib Subedar Gulbadan Singh (Retd) at Udhampur for their exceptional contributions to nation-building, social welfare and community empowerment.
The Veterans felicitated have contributed immensely towards the welfare of Ex-Servicemen, Veer Naris and local communities through dedicated social service, mentorship of youth, support to education and rehabilitation initiatives, assistance in pension-related matters and grassroots development.
Their contributions also include providing critical support during Operation SINDOOR, facilitating counter-terrorism efforts through valuable intelligence inputs and displaying exemplary courage during rescue and relief operations during natural calamities.
