BJP sensitive to O-Zone issue: Praveen Shankar Kapoor

Delhi BJP spokesperson Praveen Shankar Kapoor has strongly condemned the political statements being made by AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha and other leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party regarding the action being undertaken, pursuant to court orders, against constructions in the notified O-Zone area along the banks of the Yamuna River.

Kapoor said it would be better if AAP leaders, instead of attempting to derive political mileage from a sensitive issue affecting thousands of families, made an effort to become part of the solution.

He questioned what Jha had done to resolve the O-Zone issue during the period from 2014 to February 2025, when the AAP government was in power in Delhi.

According to Kapoor, the demarcation and definition of the O-Zone in villages situated along the riverbanks is a highly complex process involving not only the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the judiciary but also several NGOs, all of which have so far supported strict enforcement measures.

At the same time, he said, both the Central and Delhi governments, along with the BJP organisation, are working on a war footing to find a solution while keeping in mind the humanitarian aspects of the issue.

Kapoor stated that BJP MPs Manoj Tiwari and Ramvir Singh Bidhuri met Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena on Monday evening and urged him to intervene and halt the demolition drive.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has convened a meeting of the concerned officials on Tuesday morning. The meeting will also be attended by Delhi BJP president Harsh Malhotra and other Members of Parliament.

Kapoor emphasised that the Delhi BJP is extremely sensitive to the concerns of nearly 1.5 million people affected by the issue and is committed to ensuring that a viable solution is worked out at the earliest.
