In yet another fresh ‘egg attack’ in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress MLA Madan Mitra’s vehicle allegedly came under public wrath in West Bengal’s Kamarhati area.

A video that has gone viral over social media showed some local youth chasing a white SUV, purportedly Mitra’s vehicle, and throwing eggs at the glass panes of the car window, allegedly directed at the MLA, on Friday night.

The protest started off outside the residence of a ward councillor in Kamarhati, where auto and e-rickshaw drivers reportedly accused local leaders from the TMC of collecting “cut money” and demanded them back after the change in state government.

Responding to the incident, Mitra said that he was not in his car at the time of the incident but claimed in a Facebook Live post that he has “witnessed death from close.” Mitra also alleged that the ward councillor of the area Arindam Bhowmik was gheraoed by “antisocial” elements chanting ‘Jai Shree Ram’.

How The BJP Responded

Speaking to reporters, BJP MLA Arjun Singh dismissed the incident saying, “He got his own people to attack his car so that he could get security cover.”

BJP MP Raju Bista clarifed, “The BJP government does not believe in violence; in fact, the people defeated the TMC precisely because they opposed such violence.”

In a sharp attack at the TMC, which was dethroned in the recent assembly elections, Bista said, “For fifteen years, they humiliated the people, looted public funds, and did nothing but encourage infiltration and work for the benefit of infiltrators. Naturally, the people of West Bengal are enraged, and in many places, I see them expressing that anger.”

Egg Attacks In West Bengal

TMC leaders across the state including the party’s General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee came under similar such attacks after the change in the state’s political fortunes. Banerjee had faced large scale public wrath during his recent visit to Sonarpur.
