India on Friday accused Pakistan of misusing its position as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to advance what it described as “biased and false narratives” on Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that the Union Territory remains an integral part of the country.
The sharp exchange came during discussions on the Security Council’s Annual Report to the UN General Assembly, where Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Asim Iftikhar Ahmad referred to Jammu and Kashmir. India responded by questioning Islamabad’s conduct as a member of the Council and urging it to act responsibly while occupying a seat on the UN’s most powerful body.

India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador P Harish, said: “I would like to remind Pakistan that being a member of the UN Security Council is a huge responsibility. It is not a forum for peddling biased and false narratives.”
India questions Pakistan’s conduct at the Security Council
Addressing the Council, Harish said Pakistan had been circulating what he called misleading communications and using prestigious UN forums to further political interests.
“I would like to remind Pakistan that being a member of the UN Security Council is a huge responsibility. It is not a forum for peddling biased and false narratives,” he said.
Pakistan is currently serving a two-year term as an elected member of the 15-nation Security Council, which concludes at the end of 2026.
‘Jammu and Kashmir will always remain part of India’
Rejecting Pakistan’s claims on Jammu and Kashmir, Harish reiterated India’s long-standing position on the issue.
“Empty rhetoric and hollow claims by Pakistan would not change this fundamental reality” that “Jammu and Kashmir was, is and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India,” he said.
The Indian envoy added that any assertions challenging India’s sovereignty over the region were contrary to historical facts and carried no basis.
“Any assertions to the contrary are baseless, devoid of and inconsistent with historical facts…Empty rhetoric and hollow claims by Pakistan would not change this fundamental reality,” Harish said.
Fresh diplomatic sparring at the UN
The latest exchange is part of a series of diplomatic confrontations between India and Pakistan at the United Nations, where both sides have frequently traded remarks over Jammu and Kashmir.
India has consistently maintained that Jammu and Kashmir is an internal matter, while Pakistan continues to raise the issue at various international forums.
