The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Saturday attributed the disruption during the CUET (UG) 2026 examination to a technical glitch and assured affected students that they will get another opportunity for the exam.

Acknowledging the distress caused by “unfortunate technical disruption” to some CUET (UG) 2026 candidates, the NTA said, “Candidates who did their Biometric Registration and were present at their examination centres today in Shift-I, but couldn’t complete their examination due to this technical glitch, will get an opportunity for the examination.”

According to the NTA, the commencement of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-UG) 2026 was delayed at some examination centres due to a technical glitch at the end of its technology partner, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).

“The technical service provider, TCS iON, has been asked to conduct a root-cause analysis and submit its report immediately,” said NTA.

The agency said that most candidates were able to complete their exam once it resumed.

However, 3,765 candidates left the centres before the exam could restart. The NTA said that it will hold rescheduled exam for these candidates as a one-time measure.

“We understand that 3,765 candidates who were present and had completed biometric registration chose to leave before the exam could restart. For these candidates, NTA will hold a rescheduled examination as a one-time measure,” the agency said.

The new date and details will be announced separately.

The NTA earlier said the issue was resolved and the candidates at affected examination centres were given compensatory time.

The agency also revised the timings for the afternoon session. Candidates were allowed entry from 2:30 pm, while the examination began at 4 pm instead of the scheduled 3 pm.
