Attack on ED officials: Kerala police arrest 9 CPM, DYFI workers

Nine CPM, DYFI functionaries have been arrested so far in connection with the violent attack on vehicles carrying Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials, who had conducted raids at the rented residence of former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday

The latest arrests include former CPM Corporation Councilor and Palayalam local committee secretary IP. Binu, Anilkumar, Kiran, and Amal. .Binu was arrested by the police while he was hiding in a hotel room in Thampanoor. Footage of Binu throwing eggs at the vehicle in which the ED officials were travelling while the police officers were watching had surfaced. Amal, a prominent DYFI worker, was tracked down and arrested while hiding at a lodge in Kottayam

Meanwhile,the Vanchiyoor court has remanded five CPM workers to 14 days of judicial custody in the case related to the assaulting Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials on Thursday

A violent confrontation erupted in Thiruvananthapuram when a mob of CPM workers intercepted and heavily damaged vehicles belonging to an ED convoy. The team was exiting a raid conducted at the rented residence of former Chief Minister and Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan

Central intelligence agencies have flagged the incident as a pre-planned ambush rather than a spontaneous protest .The Museum Police Station registered the case under severe sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Section 309 (Attempt to Murder), rioting, unlawful assembly, and obstructing public servants.

One ED official sustained hand injuries, a vehicle driver was severely hurt by a thrown brick, and multiple CRPF and Kerala Police personnel were assaulted. The vehicle damage is valued at approximately Rs.3 lakh @⁨Mitali Gautam⁩
