The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has dismissed claims circulating on social media that its On Screen Marking (OSM) portal used for evaluation of answer books was compromised, asserting that no security breach has occurred in the system used for actual assessment work.

The clarification came after a social media user claimed that the CBSE OSM portal had been breached on February 25, 2026, a claim that subsequently formed the basis of several media reports.

Responding to the allegations, the Board said the portal cited in the social media post was not the platform used for evaluating answer books. According to CBSE, the URL mentioned by the user was only a testing site containing sample data used for internal review and testing purposes.

“At the outset, it is clarified that the portal used for evaluation of answer-books bore a different URL, which has neither been compromised nor does it have the vulnerabilities indicated in the said social media post,” the Board said in a statement.

CBSE further clarified that the testing portal did not contain any actual evaluation records, student marks or sensitive examination-related information.

“The URL referred to is only a testing site with sample data for internal testing and review purposes. There are no actual evaluation data, marks or other data held on that portal,” the Board stated.

Rejecting concerns over the security of the examination assessment system, the Board emphasized that no breach had been detected in the platform deployed for real-time evaluation activities.

“The Board emphasises that no security breaches have come to light on the portal deployed for the actual evaluation work,” it said.

CBSE also highlighted that the On Screen Marking system was introduced to enhance transparency and efficiency in the assessment process and incorporates robust safeguards and grievance redressal mechanisms.

The Board reassured students, parents and other stakeholders that strong security measures have been implemented to protect the integrity of the evaluation platform and guard against potential vulnerabilities.

The clarification comes amid heightened scrutiny of digital platforms handling examination and assessment processes, where cybersecurity concerns often trigger apprehensions among students and educators.

The On Screen Marking system is a digital evaluation mechanism used by CBSE for the assessment of answer books. Introduced to improve transparency, accuracy and speed in the marking process, the system enables examiners to evaluate scanned answer scripts electronically.

CBSE has maintained that the platform incorporates multiple safeguards, monitoring mechanisms and grievance redressal provisions to ensure the integrity and reliability of the evaluation process. The Board’s latest clarification seeks to dispel concerns arising from the social media claim and reassure stakeholders that student assessment data remains secure.
