Mercedes rams into checkpoint in Mumbai, leaves 2 policemen seriously injured

A 29-year-old man has been arrested for ramming his speeding Mercedes vehicle into two police officers at a Marine Drive checkpoint in Mumbai.

After hitting the police officials, the man, identified as Nihal Solanki, fled the scene leaving them seriously injured, IANS reported.

As per officials, people officials were conducting a check on Marine Drive on late Sunday night. The injured officials were Constable Krishnakant Mishra and Rathod, attached to the Marine Drive police station in Mumbai.

Both of them suffered serious injuries and are currently undergoing treatment in the ICU of Bombay Hospital. Solanki is said to be a resident of Panchavati, Nashik.

According to the police, the incident happened when the officers attempted to stop the luxury car at the checkout. However, the driver did not slow down and allegedly accelerated, knocking the two officials down. After the incident, he is said to have fled the scene.

After receiving information regarding the matter, police officials arrived at the spot and shifted the injured persons to the hospital.

Later on, Marine Drive police started the search operation and arrested Solanki from Nalasopara on Monday morning. An official said that Solanki was in custody as the further investigation in the matter is underway.
