Twisha Sharma was found dead at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12. Her parents alleged that she was subjected to dowry harassment by her husband Samarth Singh and mother-in-law Giribala Singh, a retired judge.

The family also alleged that the accused husband and his mother-in-law were being protected by the police.

Her father Navnidhi Sharma also raised doubts over the authenticity of the post-mortem report, claiming her injuries were suppressed in the report.

He moved a plea before the Madhya Pradesh High Court, seeking directions for the preservation of Twisha’s body and conducting a second autopsy either by a team of AIIMS Jammu or Delhi.

The high court accepted his plea and ordered a second post-mortem by a team of AIIMS Delhi.

Following the court’s directions, a medical team consisting of four senior doctors from AIIMS Delhi arrived in Bhopal to conduct a second autopsy of Twisha Sharma.

Accused husband sent to 7-day police remand

Meanwhile, Twisha’s husband Samarth Singh has been sent to seven days of police remand.

He was taken into custody by Bhopal police on Friday after he arrived at a Jabalpur court to surrender after evading the police for 10 days.

He was produced before the Bhopal court amid tight security. Prior to that, the police took Samarth to Jai Prakash Hospital for a medical examination.

With the case getting significant public attention, a large police deployment was made at the court premises.

Police personnel escorted the accused husband to the courtroom of Judicial Magistrate Anudita Gupta at around 3.15 pm.

During the hearing, the police sought his custodial remand to interrogate him in connection with his wife’s death.
