Punjab Police on Monday, May 18, claimed to have achieved two breakthroughs in separate operations conducted in Ludhiana and Amritsar, leading to the busting of a transnational terror-gangster nexus and a drug-and-arms smuggling module.

According to Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, the Ludhiana Commissionerate Police, in a joint operation with Counter Intelligence Punjab, arrested two operatives allegedly linked to a transnational terror-gangster network. Police also recovered three illegal pistols and 11 live cartridges from their possession.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused were allegedly acting on instructions of foreign-based handlers operating from Germany and Dubai in the UAE. Police said the suspects had been assigned high-profile targeted shootings in Punjab and that their timely arrest helped avert potentially serious criminal incidents.

A case in connection with the matter has been registered at the Ladowal police station in Ludhiana. Further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages of the network and identify other associates involved in the conspiracy.

In another operation, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police dismantled an alleged drug and illegal arms smuggling module and arrested one accused. Police recovered 2.1 kg of heroin and seven sophisticated pistols during the operation.

The DGP said preliminary probe suggested that the accused was in contact with a foreign-based smuggler through virtual numbers and was allegedly receiving consignments of narcotics and weapons for further distribution across Punjab.

A case has been registered at the C-Division police station in Amritsar, and further investigations are underway to identify other persons linked to the network and trace the supply chain.

Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to dismantling organised crime syndicates and maintaining peace and security in the state. The force also reaffirmed its zero-tolerance policy against drugs, illegal arms, and organised crime activities in Punjab.
