Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has called upon the intellectual class to make the present generation aware of the past of both the country and the state, as well as the transformation visible today.

He said that young people must be informed about the conditions in the state nine to ten years ago and the changes seen today.

“This is extremely necessary to prevent youth from being misled by those who pushed the state into disorder, anarchy, riots, and curfews. Intellectuals must come forward to take responsibility for raising this awareness,” he added.

CM Yogi was addressing the ‘Prabuddh Samvad’ programme organised by the BJP’s Rapti Nagar Mandal on Friday night. After paying floral tributes to Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya and Syama Prasad Mukherjee, following the collective singing of Vande Mataram, the Chief Minister said that if today’s youth are not informed about earlier conditions, they will not understand the consequences of appeasement.

He said, “The state suffered the consequences of hooliganism, anarchy, disorder, curfews, and exploitation by regional parties 9-10 years ago. The youth need to be forewarned so that they do not have to face such a situation again. Playing with the future of citizens for momentary selfish interests is an anti-national act, and no organisation or institution must be given such freedom.”

The Chief Minister further said that everyone has witnessed the rapid transformation in India, Uttar Pradesh, and Gorakhpur. Before 2017, when a child was born in UP, parents remained worried about protecting the child from encephalitis. As the child grew up, anxiety shifted to their education and, eventually, employment.

He said, “When people went outside UP for employment, they faced an identity crisis. Development was obstructed. There was no electricity, no roads, and no employment. There were no facilities for annadata farmers. Traders were forced to pay ‘goonda tax’, doctors lived in fear, and daughters were not safe. Riots, curfews, anarchy, disorder, and corruption had become the identity of Uttar Pradesh.”

CM Yogi added, “Today, Uttar Pradesh guarantees development, security, and employment. Both daughters and traders are safe. Encephalitis has been completely eliminated. The once-closed fertiliser factory in Gorakhpur is functioning again. AIIMS Gorakhpur is fully operational, and the BRD Medical College, which itself was once struggling, is today providing excellent facilities. There is now four-lane connectivity everywhere.”

He further noted, “In the last nine years alone, projects worth Rs 15,000 crore have come to Gorakhpur, and projects of an equal amount are set to come. Through these initiatives, 50,000 youth from eastern Uttar Pradesh have received employment in Gorakhpur alone.”

The Chief Minister said that intellectuals should tell the youth what the country was like before Narendra Modi became Prime Minister and what a transformation has been achieved today. “A Changing India has become an inspiration for the world today. Under PM Modi’s leadership, India’s respect has grown, and the country delivered the best management in the world during the COVID pandemic,” he said.

He further said, “In the United States, there were four times more deaths due to COVID compared to India, despite its population being only one-fourth of India’s. Despite having fewer resources than America, India’s pandemic management remained superior because PM Modi himself came to the forefront and led from the front.”

CM Yogi pointed out that despite this good work, some challenges still have to be faced. Due to the America-Iran war in West Asia, fuel supply has been disrupted everywhere. In countries like America, the prices of diesel, petrol and cooking gas have increased fourfold, while European countries face difficult conditions. Pakistan is somehow managing to survive. Arab countries are troubled and are being forced to live in darkness. An atmosphere of disorder prevails across the world. This situation has continued since February 12.

He added, “Keeping this in mind, PM Modi has appealed to the public to conserve fuel, avoid buying gold and refrain from foreign travel. Inspired by Modi Ji’s appeal, there is a need to implement measures such as solar energy, the use of public and electric vehicles, and car pooling for fuel conservation. He said that everyone must prepare themselves for the present challenge. Every Indian will have to develop the ability to maintain balance in both favourable and adverse circumstances.”

The Chief Minister said that the entire country rejoiced over the lotus blooming in West Bengal. A new environment of security is now emerging there. He said that people may belong to different states, but everyone’s sentiment should be “Nation First.” This sentiment should become a part of everyone’s life.

He further said, “India has always respected its intellectual class. Every Indian associates their gotra with some sage, linking themselves to a specific branch of knowledge. This tradition of knowledge defines the identity of Indians. One who is devoted to knowledge is Bharat.”

He added that Lord Ram taught the world that nothing can be greater than one’s mother and motherland. “A citizen from any state, speaking any language, raises the slogan of ‘Jai Shri Ram.’ Chanting ‘Jai Shri Ram’ means following the ideals of Lord Ram, which have been passed down to us through various scriptures,” he said.

At the programme, MP Ravi Kishan said that for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the nation comes first. Referring to CM Yogi’s decision to reduce his convoy in view of fuel conservation and saving foreign exchange amid tensions in West Asia, the MP noted that despite his highly sensitive security profile, the Chief Minister took this major step in the national interest.

He added that having a Prime Minister like Narendra Modi and a Chief Minister like Yogi Adityanath is a matter of good fortune for both the country and the state.
