Amazon MGM Studios has started auditioning actors for the role of 007 in the past few weeks, with the studio enlisting help of casting director Nina Gold to find the actor with qualities necessary to replace Daniel Craig as Ian Fleming’s super-spy.
In a statement released on May 14, 2026, Amazon MGM Studios acknowledged ongoing casting process but declined to reveal specific details about potential candidates. “The search for the next James Bond is underway. While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right,” the studio said.

Last year, she received her first Academy Award nomination for her work on the 2025 film Hamnet.
Her résumé also includes contributing to multiple Star Wars films, including the casting of Daisy Ridley as Rey in The Force Awakens.
The casting search comes five years after Daniel Craig delivered his final performance as the iconic 007 agent in No Time to Die. Craig played Bond across five films, beginning with Casino Royale in 2006.
Whoever is cast will become only the eighth actor to play 007, following Sean Connery, David Niven, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan, and Daniel Craig.
The next James Bond film will be directed by Denis Villeneuve, with producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, executive producer Tanya Lapointe, and screenwriter Steven Knight attached to the project.
Villeneuve is best known for the Dune films, Blade Runner 2049, and Arrival. The screenplay is being written by Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders. Knight has previously spoken about his enthusiasm for the project, saying it had long been on his wish list and that he intended to deliver a story that is “better, stronger, and bolder” than past iterations.
Prior to this week’s confirmation, the studio gave its first public signal at CinemaCon in Las Vegas last month. Courtenay Valenti, Amazon MGM’s head of film, told the audience: “We’re taking the time to do this with care and deep respect. It is the dream of a lifetime for all of us to bring audiences this next chapter, and it’s a responsibility we don’t take lightly.”
She added: “When you pair one of the most beloved franchises in history with a world-class film-making team, including the brilliant director Denis Villeneuve, extraordinary producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, executive producer Tanya Lapointe and screenwriter Steven Knight, you’re setting the stage for something that’s truly worthy of the Bond legacy. That film is coming, and when the time is right, we’ll have much more to share.”
Even before official auditions began, speculation around the next Bond had been intense, with names such as Jacob Elordi, Callum Turner, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson frequently circulating in industry and fan discussions. However, no official shortlist has been confirmed, and casting remains ongoing.
The studio is expected to make a final casting decision sometime in 2026, with production reportedly set to begin in 2027, ahead of a rumoured November 2028 theatrical release. The next James Bond film currently has no official title or confirmed release date.
