The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced the launch of the third phase of the “Special Intensive Revision” (SIR) of electoral rolls in Odisha, beginning July 1.

The Commission stated that the schedule for the revision exercise has been finalised, keeping in view the ongoing house-listing operations for the national Census. However, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh have been kept out of the current phase due to adverse weather conditions and the pending completion of the second phase of Census activities. Separate schedules for these regions will be announced later.

As part of the statewide exercise in Odisha, 38,123 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will undertake door-to-door verification of voter details to ensure accuracy and transparency in the electoral rolls. In addition, 27,723 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by various political parties will assist in the process.

The Election Commission has appealed to all political parties to appoint at least one Booth Level Agent in every polling booth to facilitate a smooth, transparent and impartial revision exercise.

The Commission further informed that during the first two phases of the Special Intensive Revision programme, electoral roll verification and updation of nearly 59 crore voters were successfully completed across 13 states and Union Territories. More than 6.3 lakh BLOs and around 9.2 lakh BLAs had been engaged in the process nationwide.
