“Great to meet Gautam Adani in Ahmedabad this morning and build on our existing partnership with the Adani group. As India fast emerges as a leading innovation hub for Uber, we are setting up our first data centre in the country with the Adani Group to test and deploy our tech. Ready later this year, this investment will help us build at scale – from India, for the world,” Khosrowshahi tweeted on his official X account.

In January 2026, Adani Enterprises Limited (AEL) stated that the company would invest more than Rs 5,000 crore in a 100 MW data centre, which would be powered by renewable energy, over 7 years. AEL will work closely with local MSMEs and start-ups to develop a globally competent supplier base for the project. It would provide employment, both direct and indirect, to 600 people.

Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi, who is on a five-day visit to India, met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Tuesday, and had a “rich conversation about Uber’s strategic investment roadmap for India”.

Khosrowshahi also met Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu and had a “forward-looking discussion” focused on enhancing the air travel experience through better and more convenient last-mile connectivity for passengers.

Earlier, Uber had released a shortlist of countries being considered as a future market for its flying air taxi project, and India featured on the list of five countries along with Japan, France, Brazil and Australia, where the service is scheduled to be launched.

Significantly, India is set to launch electric Vertical Take Off and Landing (eVTOL) air taxi services by 2028, with trials scheduled in Delhi, Mumbai, and Pune. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued guidelines for vertiport (vertical landing airports) design and airworthiness, focusing on safety, high-density urban routes, and adopting performance-based standards for operation.

The DGCA oversees the certification of eVTOL aircraft, operator licensing, and safety standards. Guidelines were issued in September 2024 for the design, operation, and authorisation of vertiports, allowing for landing in urban areas.
