She came, she twirled, and she owned the French Riviera, again. Alia Bhatt is back on the Cannes red carpet for the 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, and if her 2025 debut turned heads, her 2026 act is turning the entire festival around.
This marks Alia Bhatt’s second consecutive appearance at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival, as the global brand ambassador from India for L’Oréal Paris. After the storm she caused last year with a Gucci saree-inspired ensemble and a jaw-dropping Armani Privé gown, expectations were already sky-high the moment her name appeared on the 2026 attendee list. She did not show up to play it safe.

Before hitting the red carpet, Alia gave fans a sneak peek of her journey on social media, seen sitting inside a flight wearing a pink baseball cap with the words ‘tinted and unbothered’ and a L’Oréal Paris lip product in her hands.

Even before she set foot on the red carpet, Alia had already served a fashion moment. She arrived in the French Riviera on May 11 in an all-black ensemble that screamed effortless chic. She wore a square black blazer by Carolina Herrera, paired with capri pants from the label’s Spring 2026 collection, with the blazer featuring subtle button detailing and puffed sleeves that complemented her silhouette perfectly.
The look went along with Gucci’s iconic Jackie 1961 medium shoulder bag. Monochrome never looked this boss.

Before the main red carpet event, Alia stepped out in something that felt less like fashion and more like a walking canvas. She wore a summery gown by designer Yash Patil, hand-painted by Basuri Chokshi, inspired by the iconic silhouettes of the 1950s.
It featured structured bodice with angular cups, drop waist, a voluminous skirt layered with ombre-dyed silk organza and tulle.
The hand-painted artwork was described as an ode to the French Riviera, capturing its dreamy landscapes, lavender fields, and timeless romance. It was wearable art, and it landed exactly that way.

For the opening ceremony red carpet, Alia went full-on old-world glamour with an Indian touch woven right in. She stepped out in a peach strapless gown with a curved neckline, designed by Tamara Ralph.
The strapless gown featured structured corset-style bodice that perfectly accentuated her figure. Dupatta-inspired stole gave western outfit a distinctly Indian touch. She matched it with coordinating jewellery and kept her hair loose, a departure from the tight buns of 2025, and a welcome one.

Not everything at Cannes 2026 has been smooth sailing for Alia. As L’Oréal Paris celebrates its 29th year at the Festival de Cannes, the spotlight lies on veteran icon Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and the brand’s more recent recruit, Alia Bhatt, and from the time Alia was named as a global ambassador, a digital war has erupted on social media with fans of Aishwarya clashing with those of Bhatt.
The controversy sparked when the initial promotional posters for the 2026 campaign released, featuring Alia alongside international powerhouses like Viola Davis, Eva Longoria, and Helen Mirren with Aishwarya missing from the visual.
The internet did what the internet does. Netizens called it the “erasure of a legend,” while younger fans rallied behind Alia’s modern, relatable appeal.
Between red carpet moments, Alia has plenty keeping her busy back home. She is ready to appear alongside her husband Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Love & War’, set for release in 2027, one of her most highly anticipated upcoming projects. She is also venturing into the action-thriller genre with ‘Alpha’, produced by Yash Raj Films.
