Senior BJP leader and Kazhakuttom MLA-elect V Muraleedharan sharply criticised the delay in forming a new government in Kerala, warning of a potential “governance vacuum” in the state.

Speaking at a “meet-the-press” programme organised by the Thiruvananthapuram Press Club on Tuesday; Muraleedharan slammed the Congress for its inability to select a chief minister despite winning a decisive mandate.

He pointed out that Kerala remained without a full-fledged government more than a week after results were declared on May 4. He described this as a “deep organisational crisis” that creates a governance vacuum.

Muraleedharan accused the Congress of being “paralysed by internal power struggles” and unable to select a Chief Minister despite their massive mandate.

The BJP leader alleged that the Congress would be unable to govern independently, suggesting that its agenda would be driven by its coalition partner, the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML).

He pointed out that in the other four states where elections were held simultaneously, governments had either already assumed office or announced swearing-in dates.

Muraleedharan alleged that the delay is a “massive disrespect” to the people of Kerala, suggesting that Congress leaders are more interested in power than public welfare.

The delay of Kerala Chief Minister selection stems from a three-way tussle for the CM post between V.D. Satheesan, K.C. Venugopal, and Ramesh Chennithala.
