Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi as “the most rejected leader in the country” and a “rejected product”, at the CII Annual Business Summit held in the capital on Monday.
Fadnavis appears to have made the statement in response to Rahul Gandhi’s statement criticising PM Modi as a “compromised PM,” the previous day.

While interacting with media persons at the CII Annual Business Summit in the capital on Monday, after he spoke at the event, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was asked about the appeal made by Modi and the criticism made by Rahul Gandhi regarding his appeal.
In response, Fadnavis said, “The kind of global situation which has arisen now is putting pressure on the economies of all countries. Petrol prices in Pakistan have gone up to Rs 450. There is a shortage of petrol and diesel in many countries.”
“In India, due to PM Modi, we are getting petrol, diesel and gas. However, Modi said that we will not be able to use it without any restrictions. Considering this situation, we should do everything we can to save money. Therefore, this appeal is appropriate and everyone should respond positively to it,” Fadnavis.
Responding to Rahul Gandhi’s criticism of PM Modi, Fadnavis told media persons, “If Rahul Gandhi did not understand the meaning of what Modi said, then he cannot be blamed because his understanding is limited. But people have understood what Modi said. Therefore, the people will respond to this appeal. Rahul Gandhi is the most rejected leader in the country. He is a rejected product. You give him importance. We don’t”.
Rahul Gandhi had criticised the PM after Modi urged citizens to collectively contribute towards helping the country tackle global economic uncertainties, supply chain disruptions and inflationary pressures.
Taking to X, Rahul Gandhi had accused the Centre of shifting responsibility onto the public instead of addressing economic concerns. “Modi demanded sacrifices from the public yesterday. Don’t buy gold, don’t go abroad, use less petrol, cut down on fertiliser and cooking oil, take the metro, work from home. These aren’t sermons, these are proofs of failure,” Rahul Gandhi had tweeted on X.
Gandhi had further alleged that after 12 years in power, the Modi government asked citizens to alter their lifestyles due to policy failures. “Every time, they shift the responsibility onto the people so they can escape accountability themselves,” Gandhi stated, referring to Modi as a “compromised PM.”
