Dharmendra Pradhan calls Suvendu Adhikari’s rise as West Bengal CM a tribute to Syama Prasad Mukherjee

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said the current political moment in West Bengal carries a symbolic meaning linked to Syama Prasad Mukherjee. He said the developments in the state should be seen as a “true tribute” to Mukherjee, who was a barrister and a member of the Constituent Assembly of India.

Pradhan spoke to IANS on Saturday and said the day was important for another reason as well. He noted that it coincided with the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore, where cultural programmes were being held across the state.

He added that large numbers of people were present on the ground in Bengal. According to him, after a long wait, the formation of a BJP government in the state marks a significant moment. He said people have shown trust in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed confidence that under new leadership, West Bengal would move forward.

Suvendu Adhikari set to take oath

Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari is preparing to take oath as the first Chief Minister from the Bharatiya Janata Party in West Bengal. The swearing-in ceremony is scheduled to be held at the Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata, which is expected to see a large gathering.

Adhikari has recently won from two Assembly constituencies: Nandigram and Bhabanipur. His victory in Bhabanipur was significant as he defeated Trinamool Congress leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The ceremony is expected to include top leaders from the BJP and its allies. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, several Union ministers, and chief ministers from NDA-ruled states are likely to attend the event.
