As the oath-taking ceremony is scheduled to take place on Saturday afternoon at the Brigade Parade Grounds in Kolkata, preparations were made across East Midnapore so that residents could watch the event live.
Party leaders said that giant screens were installed at several locations in the district.
In Contai, Suvendu Adhikari’s hometown, and in Nandigram, his constituency, preparations were more visible. Streets and local areas were decorated ahead of the event. In ward number 15 of Contai, local residents themselves arranged a large screen so that people in the neighbourhood could witness the moment together.
From Friday night, parts of Midnapore, Nandigram, and surrounding areas saw continued activity. Loudspeakers played recorded speeches of Suvendu Adhikari.
Along with public screenings and decorations, religious activities also became part of the preparations in several parts of East Midnapore. Temples in different areas organised yajnas, with prayers being offered for a smooth oath-taking ceremony and for the future work of the new Chief Minister.
At the same time, BJP workers in multiple locations distributed sweets among residents. This was done as part of the local celebrations that developed after the announcement of the leadership decision.
Before leaving for the oath-taking ceremony in Kolkata, Suvendu Adhikari’s father, former Union Minister Sisir Adhikari, spoke briefly to the media. He described the moment as an important day for the family. He also said that, in his view, the state had been freed from long-standing misrule and expressed hope that Suvendu Adhikari would focus on development work across Bengal in the coming days.
In Nandigram, local BJP leaders Proloy Pal and Meghnath Pal also reacted to the development. They said the day held historical importance for the people of Nandigram. According to them, the region would mark the occasion in a festive manner.
