The fortunes of Lakhwinder Singh, the Sarpanch of village Saroop Singh Wala in Ferozepur district, witnessed a dramatic turnaround after he bagged the first prize of ₹1 crore in a state lottery. The life-changing win came from a ticket purchased for a mere ₹175, sparking widespread celebrations across his village and among his family members.
Lakhwinder Singh shared that while he occasionally tries his luck with lottery tickets, this particular purchase was made in haste. Two days ago, while visiting Jalalabad for official panchayat work, he bought a Sikkim State Lottery ticket from the Shah Ji Lottery Agency. Busy with his domestic and official commitments, Singh admitted he had initially tucked the ticket away and forgotten to check the results.

The discovery of his win happened by chance through social media. Singh came across a viral video mentioning that the winner of a ₹1 crore jackpot had not yet come forward to claim the prize. Intrigued, he decided to verify his ticket number, 80B 10379, against the winning digits. To his utter disbelief, the numbers matched perfectly, confirming him as the sole winner of the grand prize.

Overwhelmed with emotion upon the realisation, the Sarpanch embraced his father, stating that their family’s days of financial struggle were finally over. Following the confirmation, Lakhwinder Singh, accompanied by his family and fellow villagers, visited the lottery agency. The atmosphere turned festive as supporters celebrated to the beat of dhol and distributed sweets throughout the local market.
The agency operators, Mukesh Bajaj and Ravi Bajaj, confirmed that the winning ticket was part of the Sikkim State Lottery draw held on May 5 at 6 PM. They noted that they had been actively searching for the winner since the results were announced. Expressing his gratitude, Lakhwinder Singh said that this windfall is a moment of immense joy for his household and pledged to utilise the prize money for the betterment of his family and the welfare of society.
