Suspicious vehicle triggers panic in Amritsar’s Chheharta Bazaar

Fear and chaos gripped the Chheharta Bazaar area in Amritsar today after an abandoned vehicle was found under suspicious circumstances. The car, featuring heavily tinted windows and containing drums and visible wiring, sparked immediate security concerns among local shopkeepers and residents, leading to an urgent call to the police.

Law enforcement officials on the scene reported that the vehicle was identified during a routine patrol by the Commando Force. While preliminary inspections suggested that the drums found inside might be related to the transport of illicit liquor, the presence of loose wires has necessitated a comprehensive forensic examination to ensure no hazardous materials are present. Police believe the driver likely fled the scene upon spotting the patrolling units.

However, the local community has raised serious questions regarding the pace of the police response. Shopkeepers alleged that the vehicle had been stationed in the market since approximately 2:00 PM and that patrolling commandos were alerted early on. Despite the warnings, residents claimed that no significant action was taken to secure or remove the vehicle until late in the evening.

A local shop owner, whose establishment is located directly adjacent to the site, expressed the growing anxiety in the area. He noted that the recent explosion near the Army Camp in Khasa has left the public highly sensitive to security threats. The sight of an unidentified, wire-laden vehicle has further fueled this sense of dread across the marketplace.

Police Officer Harjeet Singh assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway and appropriate legal measures will be taken. Authorities have also launched a search operation to track down the vehicle’s owner. For now, the incident has highlighted ongoing concerns regarding public safety and the need for swift administrative action in high-traffic commercial zones.
