A group of Speakers from six states met in Jaipur on Tuesday to deliberate on improving the effectiveness, transparency, and accountability of the House Committee system.

The group, constituted by the Lok Sabha under the chairmanship of Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar, includes Vasudev Devnani (Rajasthan), Satish Mahana (Uttar Pradesh), Kuldeep Singh Pathania (Himachal Pradesh), Surama Padhy (Odisha), and Mingma Nobu Sherpa (Sikkim).

The presiding officers convened in Jaipur on Tuesday afternoon to exchange views on strengthening legislative committee processes.

In his opening remarks, Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma said such deliberations contribute to the evolution of procedural frameworks and democratic conventions within the legislative system.

He noted that discussions among such an eminent group would further strengthen democratic institutions and legislative procedures.

According to officials, ensuring timely action and follow-up on reports submitted by House committees emerged as a key focus area during the meeting.

The report based on the deliberations is expected to be submitted to Om Birla next month. This was the second meeting of the group, with the first having been held in Bhopal.

Earlier in the day, the Speakers attended the inauguration of a Herbal Garden and Nakshatra (constellation) Park within the Assembly premises. They also visited the Rajasthan Assembly Museum.
