The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has tightened its grip in Assam as the party-led alliance cruised past the majority mark in the 126-member Assembly, signalling a decisive endorsement of its governance plank centred on development and security.

At the centre of the victory narrative was Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who struck a triumphant yet measured tone after the results began to firm up. In a message posted on social media, Sarma credited the electorate for the mandate, calling it a third consecutive endorsement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership in the state.

“Blessings of the people made us win for the third time,” he said, adding that the verdict reflects public faith in development, women’s empowerment, and the protection of Assam’s identity. He also acknowledged the organisational push led by state party president Nitin Nabin and the strategic backing of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India (ECI), the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) was leading or had won 102 seats, comfortably crossing the halfway mark. The BJP itself secured a dominant position, winning 58 seats and leading in 24 others. Its allies, the Asom Gana Parishad and the Bodoland People’s Front, contributed further to the tally, each registering 10 wins while also leading in additional constituencies.

Sarma underlined that the mandate spanned the entire state, from the Barak Valley to the Brahmaputra Valley, and across Upper and Lower Assam, reinforcing a broad-based acceptance of the government’s development-first approach.

The Congress, meanwhile, struggled to keep pace, winning just four seats and leading in 14. The All India United Democratic Front managed to win one seat and was ahead in another, reflecting a fragmented opposition performance.

Framing the outcome as a mandate for a “Viksit and Surakshit Assam,” Sarma said the government would intensify efforts to position the state among the top five in the country. He emphasised that the verdict was not just an electoral win but a signal of the electorate’s expectations for accelerated growth and stability in the years ahead.
