Keralam appears set for a political shift, with early trends from the Election Commission of India (ECI) indicating a decisive lead for the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), signalling its return to power after a 10-year gap.
According to official trends across all 140 Assembly constituencies, the UDF has surged well past the halfway mark and is leading in over 100 seats. The Congress is at the forefront of the alliance’s performance, with leads in 63 constituencies, followed by the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) with 23 seats. Other key UDF partners, including Kerala Congress (Joseph), Kerala Congress (Jacob), and the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), have also contributed to the alliance’s strong showing.

The numbers suggest a clear setback for the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) led by Pinarayi Vijayan, which is currently ahead in around 40 constituencies. If trends hold, this would mark the end of the LDF’s decade-long rule in Keralam.
Reacting to the leads, state Congress president Sunny Joseph termed the outcome a “clear verdict” against the incumbent government, thanking voters for a decisive mandate. He said the result reflects public dissatisfaction with the LDF’s policies and governance, adding that the trends mirror the verdict of recent local body polls.
Senior Congress leaders, including Ramesh Chennithala, KC Venugopal and Shashi Tharoor, gathered at the party’s state headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram as celebrations began following the ECI trends.
Congress leader AP Anilkumar said the alliance’s performance was in line with expectations, pointing to consistent support in recent parliamentary and panchayat elections. He noted that the current trends indicate continuity in voter sentiment, reinforcing the UDF’s claim of a strong mandate.
With counting still underway, the trends nevertheless point to a significant political turnaround in Keralam, with the UDF appearing to reclaim power and reshape the state’s political landscape after a decade.
