JD(U) leader Nishant Kumar, son of former chief minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar, set out on his first statewide tour, “Sadbhav Yatra” (Harmony March), on Sunday.

Speaking to the media here before departing, Nishant said he embarked on the journey with a spirit of inclusivity, aiming to strengthen social harmony and fulfill Nitish Kumar’s unfinished dreams. During the yatra, he will directly interact with party workers and highlight the development work carried out over the past twenty years.

He stated, “We have named it the ‘Sadbhav Yatra,’ which means moving forward together with everyone. Whether rich or poor, Dalits, extremely backward communities, or minorities — everyone must be taken along. The aim is to promote love and brotherhood among all sections.”

“Mahatma Gandhi began his first Satyagraha from the land of Champaran. My father also started many of his journeys from there. That is why I have decided to begin my first journey from the same place. The purpose of this yatra is to strengthen the organisation, meet party workers, and listen to their concerns,” he added.

After Nitish Kumar’s sudden decision to step down as Chief Minister, JD(U) leaders and workers were concerned about a leadership vacuum in the party. Nishant’s emergence has generated fresh hope among party workers, prompting the party to put its full weight behind making the “Sadbhav Yatra” a success.

Nitish Kumar’s back-to-back meetings with senior JD(U) leaders on Saturday are being seen as efforts to secure their support for the yatra.

Political observers believe that the success of this statewide tour would not only establish Nishant as a mass leader, he could also emerge as the new face of the JD(U).
