Two arrested after firing outside BJP leader’s house in Noapara, Bengal; CCTV footage helped police identify the accused

A late-night shooting incident outside a BJP leader’s house in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district has led to the arrest of two people and triggered fresh political tension in the area. The police confirmed that both accused have been taken into custody after CCTV footage helped identify them.

Late-night attack captured on CCTV in Noapara

The incident took place on Saturday night at the residence of BJP leader Kundan Singh in Noapara. According to police, two rounds of firing were reported outside the house, creating panic in the locality.

CCTV footage from the area shows two men arriving on a motorbike. The bike stopped in front of Singh’s house. The pillion rider then got down, fired multiple shots, and both quickly fled the scene on the same vehicle.

Residents reported fear and confusion after hearing gunshots, and tension has remained high in the area since the incident.

Police later reached the spot and began investigation based on video evidence collected from nearby cameras.

Two arrested after CCTV leads police investigation

Following a detailed review of CCTV recordings, police identified and arrested two suspects in connection with the firing. The accused have been named as Akash Chaudhary, who was riding the motorcycle, and Amandeep Chaudhary, who allegedly carried out the firing.

Both were arrested and produced before the court on Sunday. Police have sought their custody for further interrogation.

Authorities also recovered firearm from suspects. Investigators are now working to confirm whether the seized weapon was the same one used in the attack.

Political blame game begins

After the incident, political tensions escalated quickly. BJP leaders alleged that the attack was carried out by individuals linked to the Trinamool Congress. BJP’s Barrackpore organisational district general secretary Kundan Singh said he could identify the attackers through CCTV footage and claimed they had connections with Trinamool-affiliated groups.

BJP candidate from Noapara, Arjun Singh, also echoed the allegation and pointed to the same CCTV visuals while accusing political opponents of involvement.

The BJP further claimed that the attack was an attempt to spread fear in the area ahead of the vote counting scheduled for Monday.

However, the Trinamool Congress strongly rejected these allegations. Party representatives denied any involvement and said the claims were politically motivated.

Trinamool candidate from Jagatdal, Somnath Shyam, went a step further and accused the BJP of staging the incident themselves, calling it a planned attempt to influence public opinion ahead of counting.
