Jharkhand is set to launch its first franchise-based professional T20 cricket league, with the inaugural season likely to begin in the first week of June, officials said on Friday.

The Jharkhand State Cricket Association has authorised SJ Uplift to operate the league under a seven-year agreement, introducing a franchise model to the state’s cricket structure.

The opening season is expected to feature six men’s teams. A women’s league with three teams will also be organised alongside, providing a platform for female cricketers from the state.

Matches will be open to spectators free of cost, aiming to draw wider public participation.

Player selection will be conducted through an auction and bidding process to ensure a competitive and transparent system.

JSCA president Ajay Nath Shahdeo said the initiative would help strengthen the cricketing ecosystem in Jharkhand and create opportunities for players to progress to higher levels.

SJ Uplift founder Sambhav Jain said the focus is on building a professional league structure that supports long-term development of the sport.

Former India cricketer Shahbaz Nadeem said the league would offer local players a platform to showcase their talent and aim for national-level opportunities, including the Indian Premier League.

Senior cricketer Saurabh Tiwary said players from across districts would be included to ensure wider participation.
