Something unusual is happening at the box office even before the curtains rise and all eyes are on ‘Patriot’. With two of Malayalam cinema’s biggest names, Mammootty and Mohanlal, coming together, the film is already behaving like a blockbuster.

Here’s how the buzz is building, ticket by ticket.

Ticket rush that started in minutes

When advance bookings opened in Kerala on April 28, things escalated quickly. Within minutes, nearly 10,000 tickets were gone. By early afternoon around 1 pm, that number had jumped sharply to about 85,000 tickets.

The money followed just as fast. Reports say the revenue crossed Rs 1.50 lakh in the state within hours. That kind of early rush doesn’t happen quietly.

And this wasn’t limited to Kerala. Across India, the film’s opening-day advance booking has already crossed Rs 4 crore. For a Malayalam release, that’s a serious number before release day even arrives.

Overseas buzz is already loud

Even before Kerala bookings went live, ‘Patriot’ had started making noise internationally. Advance sales overseas crossed USD 200,000 (over Rs 1.8 crore).

The Gulf region, often a strong market for Malayalam films, has played a major role. Advance bookings there alone have already crossed Rs 4 crore.

Globally, the numbers are stacking up fast. The film has already reached close to Rs 9–10 crore in worldwide advance sales, with one full day still left before release. That puts it among the biggest pre-sales performers for a Malayalam film.

Kerala leads, but worldwide numbers are climbing

Back home, Kerala remains the core market. The film has grossed around Rs 3 to Rs 3.50 crore in advance bookings in the state alone.

But the bigger picture is even more interesting. When you combine domestic and overseas sales, ‘Patriot’ is heading toward a massive opening. Trade estimates suggest the film could collect around Rs 10-12 crore in India on day one.

Overseas markets are also expected to contribute significantly, with projections hinting at around Rs 1 crore or more from international territories, depending on last-minute bookings.

All of this points toward a possible Rs 25 crore worldwide opening if current trends hold.

Chasing a big record already held by Mohanlal

If the numbers land where expected, ‘Patriot’ could become the second-biggest Malayalam opener ever.

Right now, that top spot is held by another Mohanlal film, ‘Empuraan’, which reportedly opened to a massive Rs 70 crore worldwide on day one. That record still stands untouched.

Now, all that’s left is May 1, when ‘Patriot’ finally hits theatres and the real test begins.
