Samajwadi Party National President Akhilesh Yadav has said that the BJP is “practising to become an opposition party” in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the 2027 Assembly polls, claiming that the ruling party is conducting padyatras even in extreme heat.
Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, Akhilesh Yadav said, “I heard that a march was taking place in Lucknow. No one was wearing sunglasses in this scorching heat. This is the first government that is practising the role of the opposition while being in power.”

During the press meet, Akhilesh Yadav also announced the new national president of the SP Mahila Morcha. Outgoing national president Juhi Singh declared Seema Rajbhar, a resident of Ballia, as the new president of the SP Mahila Morcha.
The SP chief said, “Samajwadi Party has always supported women’s reservation. If anyone wants to stop reservation, it is the BJP. We will not let their ill intentions succeed. Those who do not want to be counted know that when the census is conducted, people will demand a caste census. When the caste census is discussed, people will talk about their rights. That is why the BJP was trying to mislead the public. Now, to hide the failure of their intentions, they are staging protests as a pretence. They wanted to divide women, but we collectively stopped it.”
He further said, “During Hitler’s regime in Germany, a minister was appointed solely for propaganda. But in the BJP government, even those holding constitutional positions are working for the government. The BJP can go to any extent when it senses defeat. Now that it is losing, it may never return. People who spread such lies are now on the streets protesting against a bill that has already been passed. Those who have taken an oath are trying to benefit themselves through falsehoods.”
Responding to a query on Zen-ji’s role in the PDA, the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said, “Zen-ji represents the PDA. The Bahujan Samaj is the PDA. For the first time in history, a community is set to defeat a political party. That community is the PDA family. We believe that those who face pain, suffering, and oppression will unite to fight the BJP and form a PDA government.”
He added that along with reservation, women also need protection. “Tell me, what do the statistics show today? If we look at the data, women are most unsafe in Uttar Pradesh. These are not isolated incidents—there is a continuous rise in such cases, and the government is concealing them,” he alleged.
