Noida workers’ protest: UP Police blame ‘instigation’ from other states; CM Adityanath flags ‘conspiracy’ behind unrest

The Uttar Pradesh Police on Monday claimed that the workers who staged massive protests in Noida demanding a wage hike were “instigated from other states”, echoing Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s allegations of a “conspiracy” aimed at disturbing the state’s growth and development.

“Workers, instigated from other states, have staged protests at several places in Noida; in response to a violent demonstration at just one location, the police used minimal force to control the situation. The police have not resorted to firing anywhere,” the UP Police said.

Govt stands with workers, Noida protests a ‘conspiracy’: CM Adityanath

Addressing a rally in Muzaffarnagar, CM Adityanath alleged that the ongoing labour protests in Noida were part of a conspiracy aimed at disturbing the state’s growth and development agenda.

Urging people to beware of those trying to create “industrial unrest,” the UP CM said that his government “stands with the workers and will provide security to entrepreneurs, and will also offer protection to every worker.”

Earlier today, tens of thousands of workers from several industrial units gathered in parts of Noida to demand a wage hike. The protests turned violent at some places, with protesters pelting stones and torching vehicles in Phase 2 and Sector 60, severely affecting traffic movement in the area.

In view of the protests, a large number of police personnel were deployed across industrial zones under the Gautam Buddh Nagar Commissionerate, with senior police and administration officials monitoring the situation.

“The situation is under control and being continuously monitored. Efforts are being made to counsel the workers and maintain peace. Minimum force is being used wherever necessary to maintain law and order,” the police said in a statement.
