In tribute, MI players will don black armbands during the match, a symbolic gesture often used in sport to honour and remember influential figures who have passed away. The decision reflects the deep cultural impact Bhosle had, not just in music but across generations of Indians.
Maharashtra Culture Minister Ashish Shelar confirmed the news of her passing, adding that her last rites will be held at Shivaji Park on Monday.
Bhosle, the younger sister of the legendary Lata Mangeshkar, was among India’s most celebrated artists. Over her illustrious career, she earned multiple accolades, including the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Padma Vibhushan, along with two Grammy nominations.
Tributes poured in from across the sporting world as well. Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar shared an emotional message, calling her “family” and thanking her for the “countless melodies” that touched millions. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli also paid his respects, writing that her voice “will live on forever in our hearts.”
With the tribute, the MI vs RCB clash at Wankhede carries an added emotional weight, as players and fans come together to honour one of India’s most cherished voices.
