External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who is on a Dubai visit, on Sunday called on the President of UAE, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

During the meeting, Jaishankar discussed the West Asia conflict and conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message, extending his gratitude to the UAE government for looking after the Indian nationals during the crisis.

During the conflict, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had spoken to the leaders of several Gulf nations, condemning the attacks and urging them to ensure the safety and security of Indian nationals.

“I convey to him (PM Sheikh Mohammed) Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message and our appreciation for the manner in which the Indian community in UAE was looked after during this very difficult period… While the Indian community was first and foremost in our concern and therefore in my discussions as well, obviously, we discussed other aspects of our relationship…,” Jaishankar said.

Asserting that the conflict in the West Asia was very intense, Jaishankar stated that India has major stakes in the stability and security of the region.

“We’ve had a very intense conflict in this region. Obviously, India has major stakes and a big interest in the stability and security of this region,” he said.

The EAM further stated that during his discussions with UAE leadership, he conveyed that the Indian community was “very appreciative of the manner in which they were looked after.”
