Punjab Kings will head into their upcoming Indian Premier League 2026 clash with quiet confidence, backing their collective strength against a star-studded but inconsistent Sunrisers Hyderabad side at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh PCA Stadium in Mullanpur on Saturday, in the first match of the day’s double-header.
Despite a strong start to the season, PBKS were left slightly frustrated after their previous match against Kolkata Knight Riders was washed out due to rain, forcing them to share points when they appeared well on course for another win. Even so, the overall mood in the camp remains positive, with the team showing signs of a well-rounded and cohesive unit.

Under Shreyas Iyer, Punjab have built a reputation for adaptability and resilience. Whether it was chasing down a daunting 200-plus total against Chennai Super Kings in their own backyard or overcoming Gujarat Titans on a challenging Mullanpur pitch, PBKS have demonstrated the ability to handle varied match situations with composure.
Their clash against KKR at Eden Gardens also showed promise, with Australian pacer Xavier Bartlett making early inroads before the weather intervened. The performance further underlined the team’s growing confidence across departments.
A key aspect of Punjab’s campaign has been their team-first approach. As opener-keeper Prabhsimran Singh, who is coming off a breakthrough 500-plus run season, pointed out, the focus remains on collective success rather than individual milestones like the Orange or Purple Cap. That philosophy has already been reflected in performances, with Cooper Connolly playing a crucial unbeaten 72 against Gujarat Titans and Vijaykumar Vyshak steadily making an impact with the ball.
In contrast, Sunrisers Hyderabad are still searching for consistency. Despite possessing a formidable batting line-up capable of posting big totals, their campaign has been hampered by repeated top-order collapses. Matches against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Lucknow Super Giants highlighted these concerns, with the otherwise dangerous opening pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma failing to provide solid starts.
SRH have also struggled to find consistent contributions from their bowling unit. Experienced names like Harshal Pateland Jaydev Unadkat are yet to make a significant impact, leaving the team searching for answers in key moments.
There have, however, been a few positives. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen have shown intent with the bat, while young spinner Harsh Dubey has impressed with his control during the powerplay overs.
Unadkat, in particular, will be keen to bounce back after a tough outing in the previous match, where he conceded 50 runs in just 23 balls. Tasked with defending nine runs in the final over against LSG, the left-arm pacer was unable to hold his nerve, something he will look to correct in the upcoming fixture.
