Taking strong exception to Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar’s “biggest infiltrator has come from Gujarat” remark, Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday launched a scathing attack on the Opposition party, accusing it of harbouring hatred towards Gujarat, the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah.
“After Kharge, now Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar, who is considered close to Rahul Gandhi, has said that Gujaratis are infiltrators…this is the mindset of the Congress party. They are not ‘Mohabbat ki Dukan’, they are ‘dhamki ke bhaijaan’, ‘nafrat ke bhaijaan’,” said BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla.

The BJP leader further claimed that the Congress is losing the elections and that is why it is constantly “abusing” the people.
“They say Janata is devil, they say Janata is illiterate, they say Janata is infiltrator… because they are losing elections. In Modi-BJP opposition, they hate Gujarat and other states of India. They say we want to make Indians fight against Indians…, ” Poonawalla alleged.
His remarks came after a purported video of Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar surfaced on social media.
In the video, Kumar is seen addressing a public gathering and responding to a question on infiltration, a politically sensitive issue in Assam.
“All thieves have gathered together and joined the BJP…A journalist told me that infiltration is an issue, I said that the biggest infiltrator has come from Gujarat and he needs to be chased out of here along with Himanta Biswa Sarma…,” the Congress leader is heard saying in the purported video.
The Congress party is already facing criticism over its president Mallikarjun Kharge’s recent “illiterates” comment.
During a campaign rally, Kharge had said that people in Kerala were “very clever and educated” and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi could only “fool people who are illiterate in Gujarat or other places”.
The Congress chief later expressed regret over the remarks, claiming they were misinterpreted.
