On Friday, the Trinamul Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee lashed out at the Arambagh BJP leadership for misleading and creating panic among the potato growers.
He added: “Last year, the total potato production in the state was 1 crore 40 lakh metric tonnes. This time, the yield has been much higher. The state government has given clearance for potato export. There are no more obstacles. Last week alone, 1,68,000 bags of potatoes were sent to three states in four rakes from Tarakeswar. I promise that if the government comes to power, we will build 50 new cold storages for potato farmers in the state. And among them two cold storages will be set up in Arambagh, the work will start from the month of May,” said Abhishek.
