Delhi Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Sandhu on Thursday paid a visit to the Delhi Traffic Police headquarters in Todapur and reviewed the progress of the Digital Enforcement framework, stressing on scaling up the Artificial Intelligence (AI) for a round-the- clock transparent monitoring, along with scientific management of peak-hour traffic.
Sandhu noted that traffic snarls not only waste time and fuel but also worsen pollution.
He emphasized greater on-ground visibility of the traffic police, especially at congestion hotspots, can ensure smoother flow and also act as a deterrent.
The LG underlined the critical role of the traffic police in positioning Delhi as a global hub for investment and tourism, as seamless mobility is the key to competitiveness, Sandhu added.

Chairing a session of traffic police officials, the LG called traffic management a shared responsibility. He said the Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) can be key partners in things like local traffic and parking solutions.

He suggested the engagement of youth for tech-driven, practical inputs, and also reiterated commitment to transforming Delhi’s mobility through advanced technology and active community participation, moving forward towards having a smarter, as well as safer national capital.
The Traffic Praharis who had contributed to promoting road discipline through enforcement were also felicitated on the occasion.
Sandhu was accorded the ceremonial guard of honour. He felicitated the best performing Praharis associated with the Traffic Police on the occasion.
In September 2024, the Traffic Prahari incentives were declared by the then LG, whereby citizens could prosecute traffic rules violators through Traffic Prahari App that can be downloaded in smart phones.
In an initiative for the welfare of the women personnel in the traffic police, additionally, a new fleet of 38 Scooters was flagged- off for women traffic police personnel.
These two wheelers have been added to enhance quicker response in congested areas for different purposes, like removing traffic jam and enabling confidence building through effective presence on the roads.
The initiative would support women officers in their day-to-day duties, strengthen their operational capabilities and promote greater participation in field assignments, officials said.
Interestingly, two newly-procured disaster response vehicles armed with capabilities and equipment like steel cutter, tree cutter, floating water pump, generator, tower light etc. to meet the needs of traffic personnel in management of road crisis were also flagged- off on the occasion.
Meanwhile, the LG reviewed the enforcement unit and Public Interface Unit (PIU) in the Traffic Headquarters, while he was also briefed on the tangible outcomes and effectiveness of present system as well as prospective planning on managing the capital’s road situation.
