DMK Minister Warns Vijay and TVK: Thalapathy Vijay’s entry into the Tamil Nadu assembly elections, contesting from Tiruchirappalli East, has caught attention across the state. But the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) appears unfazed. Minister for Municipal Administration, Urban and Water Supply, KN Nehru, assured that the DMK will retain all seats in Tiruchirappalli district.
“We will win every seat here. All opponents, including TVK chief, will bite the dust,” Nehru declared confidently, stressing that Trichy will be central to MK Stalin’s return to power.

No Roadblocks to Vijay’s Campaign
Questions had arisen over whether the DMK might try to obstruct Vijay’s campaign. Nehru dismissed such claims outright. “Why would we block his campaign? It’s his democratic right to contest from any constituency he chooses,” he said.
He further underlined the DMK alliance’s strength, saying, “In the upcoming elections, we are confident of winning all nine constituencies in Tiruchirappalli and all 41 across the Delta region. Whoever contests against us, we will make every effort to secure victory for our candidate.”
Tiruchirappalli East: A key constituency
Tiruchirappalli East is a prominent seat with more than 2.17 lakh voters. A semi-urban constituency, around 30% of its population lives on the city outskirts. Currently held by S. Inigo Irudayaraj, founder of the Christian organisation Christhuva Nallenna Iyakkam, the seat is a DMK stronghold.
Irudayaraj had defeated former AIADMK minister Vellamandi Natarajan in 2021 and is contesting again under the DMK’s rising sun symbol. The AIADMK has fielded K. Rajasekaran this time.
The constituency has a large Christian voter base, particularly from the Vellalar community, along with nearly a quarter urban population.
Historically, Tiruchirappalli East has been a bellwether seat: the party winning here has formed the state government in the last three elections since the 2011 delimitation.
Vijay’s double entry
Making his political debut, Vijay is not limiting himself to Tiruchirappalli East. He is also contesting from the Permabur constituency. His star power is expected to influence voters, but the DMK remains confident that its organisational strength and voter base will ensure victory in key districts.
